Description

This extremely limited release toasted barrel strength rye whisky from Michter's is entered into the barrel at a lower proof then usual which yields a richer, smoother, more full-bodied whiskey after maturation. This is done despite costing more both financially and in-terms of space (more barrels need warehousing). Whilst the exact ABV varies, each is bottled as it comes out of the barrel and remains single as such.

Michter's Distillery has gone through a few name changes, originally known as Shenk's, and later Bomberger's. In 1753 it was John Shenk who founded the distillery in Schaefferston Pennsylvania. Through the Mid-1800's Abraham Bomberger took over and in eventually landed with Lou Forman who combined his sons names Michael and Peter to form Michter's distillery.

The brand almost didn't survive. In 1989 it was closed due to bankruptcy but saved by Joseph Magliocco and Richard Newman who relocated to the heart of American whiskey country, Kentucky.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Aromas of butterscotch and cinnamon with a hint of cherries pleasure the nose.

Taste: The palate offers warming notes of rich toasty vanilla and caramel. Dry oaky spices to the finish.
