Although not as common as single malt whisky, single grain whisky follows the same logic that it must be produced and bottled at a single distillery. The name also suggests that it is not blended with any malt whisky either.

It is commonplace for hundreds, if not thousands, of casks to be vatted together to achieve the desired flavour profile required of the batch. By doing so, the master blender can produce a more consistent, reproducible product. Single grain whisky can be sold as such or go on to be used in blends (see blended whisky).
