The GlenDronach Distillery, hidden in the fertile landscape of the Forgue valley, deep in the east Highland hills, is celebrating the much anticipated return of its 15 year old expression, The GlenDronach Revival. Revered by single malt connoisseurs around the world, this iconic expression exemplifies The GlenDronach's rich depths of sherry wood maturation, continuing the legacy set out by distillery founder James Allardice in 1826, marrying Highland spirit to Spanish oak. The original 15 year old sherry cask matured expression was introduced by The GlenDronach in the 1990s, bottled at 40% ABV. It ceased to be bottled until 2009, when The GlenDronach Revival Aged 15 Years was released at 46% ABV.
Having built up a strong reputation as one of the very finest sherry cask matured malts, it was discontinued in 2015 due to supply constraints. Following a three year wait, The GlenDronach Revival Aged 15 Years now returns, at 46% ABV, non chill filtered and of natural cask colour. The 2018 release has been awarded the highest possible accolade of Double Gold at San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Exclusively available at The GlenDronach Distillery for four weeks, it will be released globally thereafter.
The GlenDronach Master Blender Rachel Barrie said:
âToday marks the return of The GlenDronach Revival Aged 15 years, an iconic aged expression of critical acclaim, revered by connoisseurs around the globe. After years of slumber, this relaunched expression embodies The GlenDronach signature style of Spanish Oak maturation in fine Pedro XimĂ©nez and Oloroso sherry casks from AndalucĂa. Over 15 years in the darkness of our dunnage warehouses, the spirit has grown in stature, refinement and intensity. The Glendronach 15 year old Revival has an exquisite balance of intensity and finesse. In flavour, intense notes of ripe dark fruits and manuka honey envelope into an elegant silk-velvet chocolate finish, reflecting the richly layered complexity of this iconic single malt.â
About The GlenDronach Distillery:
Deep in the east Highland hills, The GlenDronach Distillery has been quietly perfecting sherry wood maturation since 1826. Our founder, James Allardice, built his distillery in the fertile landscape of the Forgue valley and named it âGlenDronachâ, which means âvalley of the bramblesâ in Scots Gaelic. Here, he discovered the rich depths of sherry wood maturation, marrying Scottish spirit to Spanish cask. Little has changed over the centuries, our craftsmen use the same iron mash tun, wooden washbacks and saxophone-shaped copper pot stills to distil a robust, complex and balanced spirit. Within the range of Spanish oak sherry casks available, The GlenDronach focuses on the marriage of fruity and nutty Oloroso Sherry casks and intensely rich Pedro XimĂ©nez casks; in combination, these intensify The GlenDronach signature depth in colour, full-bodied taste and richly satisfying finish. Our well-kept secrets have been guarded for nearly 200 years by a parliament of rooks, a small group of black birds that try to nest in the warehouses. The distillery folk believe that as long as the rooks remain at the distillery, it will be good for the whisky.
