Old Pulteney 13 year old single barrel is delightful. It’s everything balanced and full of flavour like any great single cask Highland Single Malt. Matured in a single cask ex-bourbon barrel. This Old Pulteney has picked up a fresh fruity flavour, slightly spicy zest and a salty maritime chocolate character from the seaside maturation.

There’s something romantic about an ex-bourbon cask single malt… Nothing to hide behind as a single cask, really capable of showing the distilleries character. So when one comes out at this exceptional quality, well, we can’t help but get a little excited.

Anyone who knows Old Pulteney knows it’s character. A robust maritime whisky.. Maybe not thought of in the same breath as Talisker or Bunnahabhain, but it ought to be!
Odd still shapes and old school condensers give us a weighty, oily spirit. Warehouses (actually) by the north sea give us a salty seaside character. Finally, the low scale, hands on production lets us find gems like this one.
