Description

This 21 year old single pot still Irish whiskey from Redbreast introduces new levels of depth in flavour and character. A complex and rewarding whiskey. Full of fruitful aromatics, it is produced in very limited quantities.

Single pot still whiskey is a style of Irish whiskey made by a single distillery from a mixed mash of malted and unmalted barley distilled in a pot still. Somewhat similar to single malt whiskey, the style was defined by its inclusion of unmalted raw barley in the mash in addition to malt.

Redbreast dates back to 1903 when Jameson entered into an agreement with the Gilbeys Wines & Spirits Import Company to supply them with new make spirit from their Bow St. Distillery. The custom of that era was that distilleries sold bulk whiskey to bonders who, being in the business of importing fortified wines such as sherry and port, had ample supplies of empty casks in which to mature new make whiskeys under bond.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Remarkable aroma spanning fresh tropical fruits, nuts and rich dried fruit..
Palate: Soft vanilla, toasted oak, sherry nuttiness with a dusting of spices. Luscious fleshy fruit notes complete the silky mouthfeel.
Finish: Lingers, seemingly forever, with oak and an assortment of spices and then, the final bow from barley - where it all began.
