Description

Boasting the World Whisky Trophy at the International Wine and Spirits Competition in 2019, Rebreast 12 year old is one of the most sold single pot Irish whiskey's in the world. Considered as the definitive expression of traditional pot still whiskey, it is full of complex flavours balanced in perfect harmony with spicy, creamy, fruity, sherry and taosted notes. Simple a must have.

Single pot still whiskey is a style of Irish whiskey made by a single distillery from a mixed mash of malted and unmalted barley distilled in a pot still. Somewhat similar to single malt whiskey, the style was defined by its inclusion of unmalted raw barley in the mash in addition to malt.

Redbreast dates back to 1903 when Jameson entered into an agreement with the Gilbeys Wines & Spirits Import Company to supply them with new make spirit from their Bow St. Distillery. The custom of that era was that distilleries sold bulk whiskey to bonders who, being in the business of importing fortified wines such as sherry and port, had ample supplies of empty casks in which to mature new make whiskeys under bond.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Deep, bright brassy gold. Powerful, sensuous aromatics, at first reminiscent of creamy soda then vanilla wafer and sweet cereals enter giving this a Bourbon slant.
Palate:Entry is soft and light. Mid palate turns deliciously creamy with semi sweet, toasty cereals and brandy cream sauce flavours superbly counterpointed by spicy, drying oak.
Finish: Finishes pure, crisp and dry with terrific length as the vanilla wafer biscuit again emerges followed by a late creme-caramel fade.
